Great News! Shanghai Superconductor's HTS Tape Production & Headquarters Base Project Officially Breaks Ground

2025-06-29

On June 29, the groundbreaking ceremony for Shanghai Superconductor's "Second-Generation HTS Tape Production & Headquarters Base Project" was successfully held. This project has been selected for the Major Projects in Shanghai 2025 and will establish the world's first large-scale industrial R&D and production base for second-generation HTS tapes. Upon reaching full capacity, the facility will achieve an annual output of 15,000 kilometers, securing an absolute leading position in global production capacity.

Leveraging years of technical expertise and experience, Shanghai Superconductor will build advanced 2G-HTS tape production lines, continuously improving production efficiency and process technology. This expansion will enhance the company's overall business scale, broaden downstream applications, and strengthen the capability for large-scale, stable supply of high-performance HTS tapes for applications such as controlled nuclear fusion, superconducting cables, and superconducting magnets. The project will further boost the company's core competitiveness and long-term growth potential, driving innovative applications in energy, power, healthcare, transportation, and large-scale scientific facilities, and injecting new momentum into the upgrade and growth of Shanghai's and China's superconducting industry cluster.

Notably, through the collaborative efforts of over ten Zhangjiang departments, the project achieved a milestone: obtaining the Land Use Planning Permit, Design Approval, Construction Drawing Certificate, Construction Permit, and Real Estate Certificate on the same day of land delivery. This marks Zhangjiang's first project to accomplish "commencing construction immediately upon land acquisition" and "delivering certificates upon land handover" in a single step.
