Shanghai Superconductor and CAS Institute of Electrical Engineering Sign Agreement for China's First Million-Level Second-Generation High-Temperature Superconducting Tape Project
2015-08-21
On the morning of August 20, 2015, Shanghai Superconductor Technology Co., Ltd. and the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement on second-generation high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape.
The total contract value of this signing exceeds three million RMB. It is the first and largest public tender project for second-generation HTS tape in China, marking the establishment of a solid strategic partnership between the two parties. This partnership lays a solid foundation for Shanghai Superconductor's future development in HTS tape research and its applications.
At the signing ceremony, both Shanghai Superconductor and the Superconducting Application Technology Committee of the Institute of Electrical Engineering expressed their strong desire for long-term cooperation.
Following the signing, Qiu Wei, President of Shanghai Superconductor, and Xue Jiping, Chairman of Zhongtian Technology, who attended the meeting, had an in-depth discussion on several topics, including the large-scale application of high-temperature superconductivity and its prospects in the power and transportation sectors. They exchanged their views and agreed that this order represents a milestone. It signifies the commercial application prospects of second-generation HTS tape, which is an exciting development for the entire domestic HTS industry.
As a leading domestic company in the research and development of second-generation HTS tape, Shanghai Superconductor will provide the Institute of Electrical Engineering with high-quality second-generation HTS tape that features uniform current distribution, robust packaging, high current overload capacity, and high resistance after quenching. Based on these characteristics of the tape, the two parties will engage in in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the application of second-generation HTS tape and other fields.
The Institute of Electrical Engineering is the only national research institution in China engaged in electrical science research. Over the past 50 years, the institute has been responsible for the strategic high-tech development of energy and electrical fields and cutting-edge research in electrical science. It has achieved more than 500 scientific research results in areas such as power system automation, large motors, large inductive energy storage technology, superconducting magnet systems, and magnetohydrodynamic power generation. More than 100 of these results have been widely applied in various fields, and the institute has received over 100 national and CAS-level awards, as well as other ministerial-level rewards.
