“Unique superconducting materials” appeared on the CCTV-10, showcasing the Innovation of superconductivity applications

Recently, "unique superconducting materials" appeared on the CCTV-10 channel "Perspective of New technology". In the program, the host Sheng Chun together with two guests Luo Huiqian, the researcher of Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guo Liang, the engineer of Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly introduced the magical properties of superconducting materials and its latest domestic application results. The three HTS demonstration projects shown in the program short film all use high-performance superconductor tapes provided by Shanghai Superconductor. At present, two HTS cable demonstration projects have been successfully put into operation. Besides, the HTS electric suspension train has also successfully completed its first suspension operation.

Through this program, the excellent properties of superconducting materials are demonstrated which have a wide range of applications in the fields of electricity, energy, medical care, transportation and large scientific devices. At the same time, the advantages of 2G HTS materials in performance and cost have become increasingly prominent with its mass production. It has been successfully applied to a number of demonstration projects such as HTS cables and HTS electric suspension trains.

▶In September 2021, China's first 10 kV three-phase coaxial high temperature AC superconducting cable was put into operation in Shenzhen and began to supply power to Ping An Building, the landmark building in Shenzhen. It is the world's first superconducting cable used in the center of a super large city which marks that China's superconducting cable began to enter the life of common people.

▶In December 2021, China's first 35kV km-class HTS cable demonstration project was put into operation in Shanghai, supplying power to more than 40,000 households and core commercial streets in Xuhui District, Shanghai. The 1.2km long project is laid underground saving 70% of the land area. While ensuring the safety of urban electricity consumption, it also improves the urban environment.

▶In March 2023, the HTS electric suspension full factors test system independently developed by CRRC Changke finished its first suspension operation. The train speed will reach 600 km/h in the future.
