Shanghai Superconductor Shines at MT29 Conference, A Recap of Highlights of 2025H1

On July 1, the 29th International Conference on Magnet Technology (MT29) was successfully held in Boston, USA. The conference focused on topics such as magnet research, manufacturing, testing, operation, and related cryogenic refrigeration technologies, attracting over 1,000 experts and engineers from the global magnet industry.

Shanghai Superconductor was invited to participate in this prestigious event. Dr. Jiamin Zhu, the CEO, delivered an oral presentation, detailing the company's progress and challenges in production expansion. He shared insights from the Phase I expansion and the successful experience of large-scale supply for multiple superconducting projects, highlighting the efficient and orderly advancement of the Phase II expansion. Moving forward, Shanghai Superconductor will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with global partners to jointly drive the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) industry toward a new stage of high-quality development.

Notably, beyond the presentation of latest progress of the company, Shanghai Superconductor was honored with other two invited presentations at core sessions of EUCAS 2025, marking the first time a Chinese HTS material supplier has gained professional recognition at a top-tier international academic conference. Shanghai Superconductor will present at the "Future of Coated Conductors" focus session organized by the Materials Sub Committee, and the "Industry-Led Projects on Superconducting Power Cables" special session hosted by the Large-Scale Committee.
Shanghai Superconductor will also set up an exhibition booth alongside other exhibitors, extending a warm welcome to experts and scholars for engagement and technical exchanges.
Looking back at the first half of 2025, Shanghai Superconductor actively participated in several major industry conferences and exhibitions, showcasing its professional expertise and innovation capabilities in the field of HTS materials.
01 "Superconducting Materials & High-Field Magnet Technology Development Seminar" & the 24th HTS Collaboration Group Meeting
From January 10-12, the seminar, hosted by the "Industrial-Academic Collaboration Group on Practical High-Temperature Superconducting Materials" and organized by Shanghai Superconductor, was successfully held in Shanghai. Centered on the theme of "Superconducting Materials & High-Field Magnet Technology Development," the event brought together four academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering, as well as over 120 experts and scholars from more than 20 research institutes and universities. Participants reviewed the 10-year collaborative development of the group, summarized its contributions to advancing China's HTS material technology and industry, and explored future prospects for superconducting magnet applications.

02 2025 International Workshop on Coated Conductors for Applications (CCA2025)
From March 11-13, CCA2025 was successfully held in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on five key topics: coated conductor manufacturing, applied research, electromagnetic & electromechanical properties, magnet applications, and power applications.

03 2025 Shanghai Global Investment Promotion Conference & "Invest in Shanghai" Week
On March 25, the 2025 Shanghai Global Investment Promotion Conference officially opened under the theme "Share Shanghai Opportunities with Global Vision". The event introduced Shanghai to entrepreneurs and investors worldwide, sharing new development opportunities and painting a new picture of open cooperation together.

During the conference, 21 key industrial projects were launched, covering advanced materials, integrated circuits, and the digital economy. Among them, Shanghai Superconductor's "Second-Generation HTS Tape Production & Headquarters Base Project" was officially established in Pudong, Shanghai, marking the world's first large-scale industrial R&D base for second-generation HTS tapes.
04 The 3rd China (Anhui) Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Transformation Fair
From April 26-28, the fair was held in Hefei under the theme "Technology Leads, Innovation Wins the Future." The event featured achievement releases, technical matchmaking, and project negotiations, promoting innovation-driven development.

Shanghai Superconductor was invited to exhibit, showcasing its latest product developments and application projects. Dr. Zhiyong Hong, Vice Chairman of the company, participated in a specialized superconducting materials supply-demand matchmaking session, introducing the performance and applications of the new 4mm-wide Slitless® second-generation HTS tape. Additionally, Shanghai Superconductor signed an agreement with the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for the "Localization of Key HTS Materials for Fusion Magnets" project, contributing to fusion energy applications.
05 The 18th National Superconducting Academic Conference (NCSC2025)
From June 6-10, NCSC2025 was successfully held in Shanghai, hosted by the National Joint Research and Development Center for Superconductivity. The conference covered five major topics: superconducting physics & novel superconductors, practical superconducting materials & flux dynamics, high-power superconducting applications, low-power superconducting applications, and cryogenics & superconducting testing & standards. Attendees included eight academicians and over 1,200 researchers, university faculty, and engineers from more than 360 institutions.
