Traditional reactors face challenges of large footprint, high energy loss and noise pollution. The newly developed HTS shunt reactor demonstrates superior performance with high power density, low energy loss, low operational noise (<60 dB) and a small footprint (<6 m²). The comprehensive performance indicators position the superconducting reactor as an ideal option for future upgrading of aged urban substations, as well as for construction of new stations.

This development empowers municipal grid systems to integrate a safe, efficient and sustainable solution to improve voltage stability. Following the successful flagship demonstration of Shanghai 1.2km superconducting transmission cable, now into its 5th year of persistent service, this shunt reactor is the second HTS device to commercially operate on the Shanghai City Grid. SST is proud to have supplied all of the REBCO tapes required by the project, and will continue to commit ourselves to support all kinds of applications worldwide. Let's “Tape superconductivity to the world”.
