The 1:1 Double-Pancake Coil for Zhiyuan-1 Stellarator Successfully Passed Liquid Nitrogen Testing, with Shanghai Superconductor Supplying All REBCO Tapes

Recently, the 1:1 double-pancake HTS coil for stellarator Zhiyuan-1, jointly developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Honghu Fusion (Shanghai) Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Yixi Technology Development Co., Ltd., successfully passed the test in liquid nitrogen. All REBCO superconducting tapes (wires) used in the coil were supplied by Shanghai Superconductor.

By adopting a technical route combining "3D printed pre-grooved channels with post-sealed pipes," the coil assembly achieved a fabrication precision of ±0.5 mm without any damage to the coil. Following four thermal cycles and critical current tests, the coil demonstrated excellent consistency.

This milestone demonstrates the engineering feasibility of HTS magnets for complex stellarator configurations, and once again confirms the robustness and consistency of SST HTS tapes under demanding conditions involving bending and twisting.
